About JMOG:

It is currently impossible to create a MMORPG without immense resources usually available only to a well-funded game development studio. The goal of JMOG is to bring the feel of text-based MUDs to MMORPGs by making it possible for a single hobbyist or small group of game designers to create a MMORPG.

JMOG (Java Multiplayer Online Gaming) is a free, open-source, Java-based server for MMORPGs (Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games). It provides game designers with an open-source framework upon which to build their games, transparently handling the networking and data persistence logic for them.

JMOG is currently in the planning stage and is hosted at SourceForge.net, where you can find more information about the current status of the project.

Project News:

Build Instructions
September 1, 2004, 12:28 am UTC

In the interest of readying the JMOG code for public consumption, I've gotten it cleaned up enough so that any Java programmer ought to be able to configure, build, and run it. Detailed build instructions are now available in CVS.

This is just a first step toward generating interest - there's some real, working code, but there's still a lot of work to be done in the server design and development! If you think you'd like to take a look, check out the "Building JMOG" thread in the Development forum: http://jmog.sourceforge.net/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3

JMOG Ramping Up
August 21, 2004, 3:10 am UTC

I've been working on a prototype application for JMOG for some time, with the intention of bringing it to SourceForge for continued development.

I'll shortly have the existing code base imported to CVS, and some basic documentation uploaded about the current design.

If the idea of a java-based MMORPG server sounds cool to you, stop by the forums and say hi! The're available at the project web site: http://jmog.sourceforge.net
